Rock Climbing at Hell's Gate

Hell’s Gate, a park in Kenya with rock climbing, camping, and hiking, it's one of the few game parks where we can walk with animals like buffalo, zebra, giraffes, and even some hyenas.
Normally we have to stay in the car.

Early in the morning Dad, Michael, Nathan, and I started up a 5 pitch climb called Amazing Journey on a 400 ft rock face.  This route is a free climb meaning the leader climbs a pitch putting protection in, and once he is at the top of the pitch he belays the, rest up completing that pitch.

The most frustrating part of the climb was at the beginning where there was a ridiculous little rock which jutted out that we had to straddle.

This tiny shelf is where Dad belayed us, and now we are all crammed up there with him preparing for the next pitch.

The climb was tons of fun because it didn't go straight up the cliff, it zig zagged its way up.  We got a beautiful view of the park and the animals but there was one little speck that was jumping up and down waving and whooping us on……...................Mom.

Finally after 7 hours of climbing we made it to the top, one of my favorite things we've done yet in Africa!
